book review

I finished reading the book titled Passionate Camera and I think it's interesting in the sense that there are existant visual forms of photography that captures the body differently from the so called 'norm' of documentary photography. I enjoyed the essays by the different writers and they are quite insightful about queer culture.

residency

I can't seem to be able to choose which residency to apply for as there are lots of opportunities and I think of what fits my profile. I have been recently exhibiting some off the pin-hole photographs at Bendana Pniel gallery in France, Paris and I am chuffed about it. I have been thinking about the feedback from the shows, and I have heard that they are good.

review exhibition

I think that the feedback fro the review was good. Some of the suggestions were to frame the pin-hole images differently and maybe try and resolve them. Marislov Lichi is someone to look at if you want to build you own ideas again.

The exhibition looks great and I am happy with the show. I think the images speak for themselves and I look forward to making more. JOZI is great place to show and I would like to hear from other artist who come to see the show.

Dissertation progress

I have submitted my draft for review and I am trying hard to have it done by end of August. I just hope it links in well with my new body of work the pin-hole photographs titled Ze. pin-hole photography

My work and interest in pin-hole images lies in looking at some of Jean's work. I wanted to work with photography in order to explore sexuality and gender. I was inspired by some of Nicholas Hlobo work titles were his work are part of the narrative of Xhosa culture. In the new pieces I work with the body and Xhosa titles in order to make it complex and make statement about my own queer sexuality. I enjoy being seen as a exponent of queer culture and the new work is different from the series I have done previously. This is a Xhosa meaning for nude and I want to use it as a title for my earlier work. The focus now is on my dissertation and also working towards a body of work that is successful for the Masters programme. I intend to be at the showing of Penny Siopis and me at the Brodie/Stevenson Gallery on July.

manifesto of art and making a statement of representing the black male subject. I just had a few suggestions for my dissertation and I am working on them.

I have been selected to the Spier Contemporary exhibit and there are just some technical issues that needs to be resolved. I have also been submitted work for the Da'Art exhibit which is great exposure for me and I am excited. I feel blessed for being part of a exhibit that showcases South Africa's top emerging artist.
